How the estimate works
The calculator applies two common budgeting rules to your gross monthly income and shows the lower of the two results.
The first is a comfort ceiling: rent of no more than 30% of your gross monthly income, which leaves room for utilities, transport, savings and everyday expenses.
The second accounts for what you already owe: 40% of your gross monthly income minus your existing monthly debt payments, such as car loans, credit cards or personal loans. The more debt you carry, the lower this ceiling falls, and it never goes below zero.
Landlords and agencies apply their own criteria, so treat the result as a starting point for your search rather than as a pre-approval.
